Through thousands of years, a conflict has affected part of the galaxy. It was a long and expensive war between several races that inhabit the Axius, a huge interplanetary system, interconnected thanks to the presence of the “portals".
The origin of this war dates back to when the “portals” where discovered. These portals were hidden throughout the Axius in different shapes and sizes. Created by an ancient culture that was called the Alphas, as they were believed to be the first habitants of the Axius.
It was the Haduk, habitants of the Val-Tok system, who discovered the first portal, hidden in one of their planets´ moons. They called themselves the heirs of the ancient Alphas, their mysterious technology, and the Axius (They called Axius, the set of systems that was connected by the portals).
Using the portals, the Haduk started contacting all the different civilizations that inhabited the Axius, on a diplomatic roll, at least at the beginning, but stating that they were the owners of this ancient technology. All civilizations throughout the Axius accepted these conditions and they benefitted greatly from the use of the portals; they were for the first time not isolated by the vast immensity of the Axius and were able to trade goods and technology with new civilizations. These were the most prosperous times in the history of the Axius…
Peace and prosperity did not last long in the Axius, as the importance of the portals increased so did Haduk´s ambition, they called themselves the heirs of Axius, and the other civilizations started to feel it.
The Haduk started claiming control over the different systems in return of allowing them to use the portals. Some of the civilizations in the Axius accepted them as their new leader, after all the portals brough so many benefits and richness to the systems that they felt bound to them.
But not all the civilizations were happy with this new condition and started questioning the Haduk and their rules, clamming that this selfishness was not the use that the Alphas had in mind when they built the portals.
It was not long until some systems started organizing themselves against the Haduk. Led by the Kaltians Civilization, they attacked, captured and closed the portals in their systems, and declare themselves free from the Haduk. The first Great War had begun. On one side the Haduk and the controlled systems, and on the other the Kaltians and the free systems.
The war lasted for thousands of years, the portals were captured and recaptured by both sides, civilizations turned their resources towards the war which slowly but relentlessly turned into their way of life. The art of war and combat was passed from generation to generation, and great warriors and champions emerged in each civilization.
It was the arrival of the Provorals that changed everything. They came from outside the Axius and their technology was vastly superior to any of the Axius´ civilizations.
The conquest moved fast, and in just a few years, the Provorals took control of half of the Axius and its portals.
In their despair, Haduks and Kaltians that were enemies for thousands of years, understood that they had to join forces if they wanted to have a chance against the Provorals. It was the biggest and strongest alliance in the history of the Axius and unite all the systems that were not yet conquered by the Provorals.
The war was brutal, but short, the technological supremacy of the Provorals was abysmal, and wasn´t long until they took control of all the Axius and subjugated all their civilizations, including Haduks and Kaltians.
Val-Paktoo, supreme leader of the Provorals, was proclaimed Emperor of the Axius, starting a long awaited but precarious period of peace.
The different civilizations that devoted their entire cultures to war and combat for thousands of years, were lost within this new social order that commanded them to go back to a way of life, long time forgotten.
But the emperor was wise, and to prevent this becoming a cultural problem he ordered the creation of several combat arenas around the Axius, where all civilizations could send their war Champions to fight and ease their thirst for war. And he used the same locations of the famous battlefields where the old wars took place, as the battlegrounds.
He called the tournament The Champions’ Warfare, where warriors and champions from different parts of the Axius met once again with old allies and enemies in the same battlegrounds they once fought to defend their freedom. But this time they were looking for glory.
The Champions’ Warfare popularity grew fast, and soon became the most popular sport in the Axius, and the Emperor decided to create the first Champions´ Warfare Tournament, transmitted all through the Axius. Throughout dozens of systems, in hundreds of arenas, warriors came to test their skills and climb the Champions´ Warfare´s ranking, obtaining fame, glory and riches in exchange.
The older warriors that fought in countless battles in the past, became masters in training new talents in the art of combat, and the best champions in the Axius became real heroes in all systems, even cults emerged in their names.
These arenas have been designed to provide “some” safety to the Champions supplying them with some armors and shelters. The champions are also provided with special weapons that allow the different races to channel their skills, and a neck translator so that champions from different races can communicate between each other.
The floating Frigates are also a silent reminder of the owner of the Arenas and the Axius….
